WebThe possibility to damp liquid sloshing using foam is promising in numerous industrial applications such as the transport of liquefied gas in tankers or for propellants in rocket … WebIn this work, we study experimentally the effect on sloshing of liquid foam placed on top of a liquid bath in a Hele-Shaw cell. We generate a monodisperse 2D liquid foam and track its motion. The influence of the foam on the sloshing dynamics is characterized: 2 to 3 layers of bubbles are sufficient to significantly damp the oscillations.
WebMay 1, 2024 · The sloshing masses for the current tank and fill levels were derived numerically using potential theory [3] [4], and a geometrical model of the tank. The computed sloshing mass m s, the rigid liquid mass + structure mass m r, and the spring constant are given in Table 3. Note that only the first sloshing mode is considered. WebThe influence of the foam on the sloshing dynamics is experimentally characterized: only a few layers of bubbles are sufficient to significantly damp the oscillations. We rationalize our experimental findings with a model that describes the foam contribution to the damping coefficient through viscous dissipation on the walls of the container.
WebJan 22, 2015 · Using a high-speed camera, a moving stage, and fluid with and without a head of foam, they studied the waves following a sudden motion. Their measurements showed that foam indeed reduces the sloshing. But much to their surprise, they also discovered that foam is very efficient at damping waves: just a few layers of bubbles … WebNov 28, 2014 · It is a common observation that beer does not slosh as readily as coffee, which suggests that the presence of foam could be used to damp sloshing, as illustrated …
WebDec 1, 2024 · Sloshing can be described as a back-and-forth motion of a liquid inside a tank. Liquid sloshing in a tight container is an important phenomenon in transportation, aviation, and naval engineering. The forces acting on containing structures due to this hydrodynamic movement can cause major deformations in the tank and the supporting …
WebDec 20, 2009 · In this research, an analytical model is developed to estimate the hydrodynamic damping ratio of liquid sloshing for wall bounded baffles using the velocity potential formulation and linear wave theory.
