Bird blood cells
WebThe avian red cell is typically 10–15 μm in length, depending on the species; however, the typical mammalian erythrocyte is biconcave and 6–7 μm in diameter. Because the erythrocytes are larger, red blood cell (RBC) numbers are lower in birds compared with mammals. Numbers of RBCs also tend to be lower in young birds and females.
